שולחים דואל מ-GMAIL? איך להפטר מ-on behalf of

נכנסים  ל-Settings, משם ל-Accounts and imports.

בוחרים ב- Add another email address you own.

בשלב הבא, מרבית האנשים בוחרים ב-(Send through gmail (easier to set up.

נעלם ה- on behalf of…

English version
If you're like me, you probably like GMail a lot. You use it for many different tasks, but in the modern world most people have more than one email address they use. If you didn't know, Gmail will let you send emails from your other accounts directly from the Gmail interface.

To do this, you go to settings, Accounts and imports. You select "Add another email address you own".

This can be another gmail account, another domain account. It can be a forwarder to your gmail account (so Gmail will act as a hub for all your emails from all your accounts) or it can be a colleague's account or a manager's account.

Here you can enter your alternate email address. You should turn off the "treat as an alias", although it doesn't make much of a difference.

What most people do at this point is "Sed through gmail (easier to set up)", select that (we'll get back to that later on). Next, Google will send you an email verification with a link that ensures that you really do own that other email address. Once you click on the link, your accounts list will include that email as well.

You should now be able to select that email as your from email address directly from gmail.

What I do at this point is set up your gmail account to include IMAP. Once you have that set up you can make your own thunderbird or outlook work with your gmail account as a normal account. You can enter your "from email address" as the official email address but be sure to use your real gmail address as your username.

Now, this works quite well, but has one caveat. Users who receive your emails in outlook will get the dreaded:

" on behalf of "

In the from email box. This also applies when you send emails from outlook or thunderbird (or any other email software).

The Internet has a few solutions, but most of them require you to have access to another mail server and mail account. This is kind of annoying, particularly if you don't have an accessible mail server available.

This trick exploits a little known gmail flaw with this feature. If you select an external SMTP server, it removes the "on behalf of". Since Gmail offers their own SMTP server, why not use Gmail's own services to resolve the issue?

So, first, edit your account settings. Instead of "Send through gmail", select an external SMTP server.

The server to use is "smtp.gmail.com" (port 587). Enter your gmail username (you can edit your password, but it's not necessary. Select "send through TLS".

Now, if you send email through gmail, you will not get the annoying "on behalf of" in the from. This will work transparently for your iPhone, thunderbird, outlook and Gmail clients.

Update

If you get a notification that sent emails were blocked due to "suspicous activity", that basically means that Google noticed that an IP from Google is actually sending your emails out. That's perfectly fine, but you will need to wait in the Gmail interface until you get a red notification bar on top, which will allow you to authorize Google to send emails out for you.

Once you authorize it, all should be well again.
